H.E. Togdan Rinpoche
Founding master of the center is His Eminence Konchock
Thoubten Tenpa Gyaltsen, 9th Togdan Tulkou. He is in
charge of the 3 large monasteries of Lamayuru, Phyang and Shatchoukhul
in Ladakh, to which 49 other gompas are linked.
Born the 5th of January 1936 in Ladakh, he studied
in Tibet, at Drikung Thil monastery in 1954.
He is an emanation of Humtchenkara, one of the Padmasambhava's
eight masters captured by Chinese in 1959, he escaped. Togdan
Rinpoche considers Dudjom Rinpoche, the Nyingma lineage spiritual
master, as his root lama. He is today, with Garchen Rinpoche,
one of the last lama of Drikung Kagyu lineage having received
a full training in Tibet. Garchen Rinpoche, regent of Kham monasteries,
is another great master of the lineage.
